In Conversation with Batu
Our season of CDR Sessions continues with one of the UK’s most forward-thinking producers and DJs, Batu. For those new to CDR Sessions, each event includes an in-depth, production-focused interview with a guest artist, exploring their career and creative process. The talk is flanked by openCDR, where producers and artists of all levels and abilities have the opportunity to play their own music on some of the best club sound systems across the UK. All genres and styles welcomed!
Known for his distinctive slant on modernist techno and experimental club music, Batu has built a sound defined by bold shapes, angular rhythms and meticulous sonic detail with a focus on utilising modern software to create singular sound signature.
2025 was a landmark year for Batu. He marked a double celebration: 10 years of his future-facing Timedance label and five years of En Masse Festival, a platform rooted in Bristol’s innovative electronic music scene.
The year also saw the release of his Question Mark EP, alongside production work for FKA twigs and PinkPantheress, and he was also named by Mixmag as one of the DJs that defined 2025.
As a DJ, Batu moves fluidly between the intimacy of underground spaces and major international stages, with standout sets in 2025 at Butik, Dekmantel, Draaimolen, Gala, Horst Club, Open Ground, and We Out Here.
His creative practice also extended into visual work, including scoring a short film for Harry Lawson.
As we enter into 2026, join us for an in-depth conversation with Batu, flanked by openCDR: your chance to bring along your works-in-progress and hear them played on Corsica Studios’ world-class sound system. We keep our events as accessible as possible but if you are able, we would appreciate your support of CDR with a £5 donation ticket. Every contribution helps us continue creating space for producers and artists to connect, learn, and grow.

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
