In Conversation with Obeka
The autumn season of CDR Sessions continues with Obeka—the Bermudian-born, UK-based percussionist and producer known for his powerful, rhythm-driven performances and deep connection to his Caribbean and African roots.
For those new to CDR Sessions, each event includes an in-depth, production-focused interview with a guest artist, exploring their career and creative process. The talk is flanked by openCDR, where producers and artists of all levels and abilities have the opportunity to play their own music on some of the best club sound systems across the UK. All genres and styles welcomed!
Drawing from Pan-African, Caribbean and South American influences, Obeka merges live percussion with electronic production to create a distinctive polyrhythmic sound that’s earned him attention from Mixmag’s “Artists to Watch in 2025.” With releases on Future Bounce, Love in The Endz, Basy Tropikalne and Left, Right & Centre, his music reflects a cross-continental dialogue between tradition and innovation. Beyond his solo work, Obeka’s vibrant energy has taken him to stages in Berlin, Lisbon, Miami, and Colombia, as well as into the airwaves of Oroko Radio (Ghana), BBC Radio, Rinse FM, and NTS.
Join us for an inspiring conversation with Obeka as he shares insights into his creative journey and the ways he channels rhythm, culture, and community through sound, flanked by openCDR: your chance to bring along your works-in-progress and hear them played on Corsica Studios’ world-class sound system. We keep our events as accessible as possible but if you are able, we would appreciate your support of CDR with a £5 donation ticket. Every contribution helps us continue creating space for producers and artists to connect, learn, and grow.

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
