Hagan’s Short Film, ‘Textures’, Explores Homecoming, Love and Cultural Identity
Back in March, London based producer Hagan joined us for an artist talk and a deep dive into his creative process.
Following the release of his debut album, Textures, Hagan’s sound merges his Ghanaian heritage with dark melodic gritty UK bass sounds. Moving towards a visual depiction of his album, with it premiered on online platform Trippin. for one week only.
The 12 minute short film is directed by Mike Calandra Achode and co-written with April Walker and stars Yaa Korantema alongside her partner (played by BiQo). Her mother during the short is even played by Hagan's own mother - Ivy Hagan - with Hagan himself making an appearance.
It's a story of love, conflict and homecoming, set against beautiful scenery and idyllic seascapes, Yaa begins her journey to find herself while fighting for agency and navigating family tension. The beauty of this is the merging of Hagan's cinematic productions with moving image, soundtracking their ebbs and flow perfectly.
If you missed out on viewing the short film, you can have a read of the interview here.
And we highly recommend buying the album:

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
