There's something entrancing about tracks which get called midtempo, or even slow house. Songs you find yourself bopping to as they chug along at 100-110bpm. Kwaito tracks have the knack and Cuetec's shown us via CDR Berlin sessions that he's also mastering that groove. Before he makes the step from production to playing in public this Thursday, we had a little talk.
When and where did you first hear about and attend CDR? What do you recall?
My first CDR was in February this year and it was like it should be, recommended by a friend. The show has been hosted by Robot Koch, and the way he talked about his music is still in my mind. It was awesome.
What do CDR audiences at Prince Charles have in store for them when you at our Summerjam on August 8th?
LOL, a good question, I am still trying to get my set together, but I guess it will be a a nice cocktail of sun-flavoured slow music.
Is there a song that is shaping up as your track of Summer 2013?
YESSSSS, I have two tracks that blowed me away this Summer, first is:
Baaz - Way Out Citti (Reiling & Astrup Rmx). It's from last year already but I discovered it sadly too late [CDR Say: No! There's no too late. Better now than never]
and second one is:
Uffe - Something Wrong a track that remembered me on old Metro Area tunes, that I still love.
With the fire to be lit up for food, have you a favourite BBQ dish/recipe?
Sure, just mash some lime, garlic, chilli, coriander and oyster sauce with yoghurt, salt and pepper and flavour chicken with it. Serve this with some lentil bread and you have a nice and light BBQ.
Who/What has been on heavy rotation on your audio player of late?
Those are mainly 4 albums.
Robot Koch – Songs for Trees and Cyborgs Studio One Sound - Studio One Sound Menahan Street Band - The Crossing Gang Colours - The Keychain Collection
Please talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users) [in other words, last project you saved].
Well, actually I am working on my second album, I have a beautiful singer, her name is Wena, and she is from South Africa. I am really glad to work with her on some tracks. And I even tried to finish my track for Dimension Sounds.
Finally, have you any advice or words of warning for producers/musicians developing musical works in progress to play at CDR?
No a warning is maybe wrong, a recommendation would be to submit the tracks in best quality to get a nice result on this beautiful sound system. And you should always try to be yourself, copy no one, and break the rules, if they exist.
