With CDR sessions well established in London, Berlin, Copenhagen and Sydney, it's always exciting when a call comes to enquire about putting on a night elsewhere in the world. When our friends, LPZ (aka Lopez) asked about running a CDR night  in their home town of Asunción, Paraguay we said let's sí. Before the event this Friday, a talk with 1/3 of the crew, Javier. ¡ vamos!

When and where did you first attend or hear about CDR? What do you recall?

The first one was around 2009, we heard a few things about the night and the soundsystem at Plastic People so the idea sounded really appealing. Few things to remember from that night was the wall of sound that you get at PP, Tony spinning some cool beats from the CDR archive selection and then meeting some other producers that night. It was a great experience and straight away we said we wanted to do something similar at some point back home.

How would you describe the music/Arts scenes in Asunción? Having lived in London for some time, how do they compare?

Music scene is fairly small but there is a great sense of community in Asuncion and to an extent Paraguay. There is an ever growing pool of producers and DJs that have been keeping us in check and updated from Asuncion (people like Matias Espinola, Roberto, CHVZ, Alex AQ, Manuman and others), peeps we can rely on for any event we are involved in so that's a great feeling when you can fully trust someone who is not part of your group exactly.

Comparing it to London is very difficult as they are two completely different things, Paraguay doesn't have the history of dance music that the UK has, the electronic music scene here is just in its infancy but that is a really good thing thing at the same time as there aren't as many restriction or rules in a way which makes for a more interesting approach to music.

Please could you describe your work life/creative life tussle. Any tips or tricks for managing to keep making music?

Just keep on working on your daily grind, it's very easy to get caught up in trying to come up with a grandiose idea for the next track but until you lay down something or work on some ideas nothing will happen. One idea will probably spur another idea and so on until something good will come out. In the meantime you get more experience using your tools and get a feel of what works and what doesn't. Having access to a club's soundsystem like the Migrana one in Asuncion where we run nights also helps a lot as it's a lot easier to check what works. We try not to be too romantic about how things should be and just concentrate on try to make as many good tunes as we can, especially when all 3 of us are in the same room together which doesn't happen very often.

Who/What has also been on heavy rotation on your audio player of late?

The new EP on Ultramajic, Letherette's LP, Boards of Canada, Daniel Avery, Legowelt, Special Request, Machinedrum, Tom Trago, etc.

Please talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users) [in other words, last project you saved]

We are working at the moment for a new EP for Loungin Records, new track is called 'The Jupiter Menace' and is a bassy house track with a sci fi sound that got some great reception when we play it out. The EP will come out early next year and there is talk of doing an LP at some point as well but that is a long way away for now, we want to do a few more EPs in early 2014 and take it from there basically.

Finally, have you any advice or words of warning for producers/musicians developing musical works in progress to play at CDR?

Word of advice is keep on dreaming and working at the same time, there is a point where both things overlap if you keep on trying and make sure the level of output hits a certain standard. And of course playing out tracks at CDR also helps besides being a great creative hub for ideas in the making.
