CDR and Saffron team up for the first time, as part of a shared commitment to expanding access to music making. They will collaborate on a series of three artist talks featuring some of Bristol’s most exciting acts.
The talks will take place at Dareshack and The Love Inn in Bristol and be free to attend for all. First up is Pressure Dome label founder and warped techno innovator Yushh who joins us on the heels of her stellar debut EP on Wisdom Teeth. Grove has seen their mix of politically laced lyrics and high octane fusion of dancehall, punk, pop and jungle, earned them a place on festival stages in the U.K. and abroad and their “Queer + Black” single gaining widespread attention. With releases on cutting edge labels like Hessle Audio, Idle Hands and Future Times, as well as her critically acclaimed debut album Tangerine on her own Peach Discs imprint, Shanti Celeste has released a slew of crucial club music over the years, making her one of the UK’s most in demand club DJs.
The events will follow a classic ‘CDR Session’ format. The event centres on an in-depth, production focussed interview with the guest artist, exploring their career and creative process. The talk is flanked by ‘OpenCDR’ - a DJ set of audience music submissions, giving everyone a chance to hear their own music on an amazing club soundsystem. All music is welcome, from a rough idea to a final master, and everything in between.
We’ve got some great talent lined up for these sessions and we’re mega excited to be working on them with CDR. Our musical outlook and missions are so aligned, that it feels natural to do this, bringing our communities and expertise together. It is an honour to be invited to collaborate!
- Lizzy Ellis, Saffron
We’re so excited to partner with a kindred organisation like Saffron to advance our shared mission of expanding access to music making. Their work continues to be vital in moving towards gender equality in the music tech space, which is still heavily male dominated. They’ve built an amazing community in Bristol and further afield and we can’t wait to kick off what will hopefully be the first of many joint endeavours.
