Joe lo:fi is a DJ, radio host on Balamii & Aaja radio and designer based in South East London. For a fair few years he was making loops and beats "but never got any further than 16 bar loops". Then in the last couple of years Joe lo:fi has been getting into the flow of things and fleshing tracks out to have a bit more of a journey. Listen to 'None The Wiser'.
"There were a couple of stages of inspiration on this track. The first part of inspo was hearing some keys that I really wanted to sample, chop, skew and completely change so that when listening side by side you couldn’t recognise them as the same. I originally intended making this into boom bap style beat. This wasn’t clicking so I decided to switch things up and try have more fun with it by recording in some live percussive elements and dancing around the room :). The dark nights and stormy settings were getting on top at that point so I needed to make something to uplift my spirits but still having that sprinkling of melancholy.
The second part of inspo is that I love using CDR sessions as a purpose to finish off, or at least flesh out, a track that I’ve been piecing together. If I didn’t have that, then it would’ve definitely sat on my hard drive and never grown into anything other than a dusty loop."
