I made ‘Cut Thru’ during lockdown at a time where I was struggling to stay focused and create music. On the flipside though, I was trying to broaden my influences and after listening to Mr Sruff’s DJ Kicks I came across Steve Spacek’s alias ‘Blackpocket’ which I was not aware of. The track ‘Thankyou And Credits’ comes in as the second track of the compilation mix and was just that burst of inspiration I needed & I wanted to record the idea as soon as I could so the vocal you hear that’s panning throughout is just me & was recorded using standard apple headphones (something I had never done until that point). I was then selected to be part of Brownswood’s Future Bubblers and since then I have played ‘Cut Thru’ at our Jazz Cafe showcase in July 2021 and it also received airplay on Worldwide FM on Future Bubbler’s show and like the title, musically I’ve been cutting through having opened for the likes of Shy One, Charlie Dark & Gilles Peterson in the city I made the track in, Norwich.
